Food review summary new product of the year 2006 (SOUTH AFRICA)

In October 2006, red espresso® earned top honour by winning Best New Product in the 2006 SA Food Review / Symrise New Product Competition. “Putting a sophisticated spin on an old stalwart and taking [Rooibos] to a whole new level” was the unanimous response from SA Food Review’s adjudicating panel, who, after year-long deliberations, awarded red espresso® first prize in the competition. Held annually, the competition aims to recognise and reward the “spirit and realization of new ideas and invention” imperative to South Africa’s food and beverage industries – honouring not only innovation, but also the marketing skill essential to complete the product package and motivate consumer loyalty.

Best New Product – Specialty Beverage – SCAA 2008/9 (USA) 

South African innovation red espresso®, the world’s first tea espresso, earned the specialty coffee market’s highest honour by winning “Best New Product” in the Specialty Beverage category at the world’s largest coffee show, the SCAA Specialty Coffee Association of America's 20th Annual.

Conference & Exhibition, held in Minneapolis from 2 - 5 May 2008.

The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) is the world-renowned trade authority on specialty coffee and conducts the competition as part of its annual conference and exhibition. In 2008, the SCAA assembled 7,300 specialty coffee professionals from more than 40 countries. The international conference featured the Coffee of the Year Competition, the United States Barista Championship, and more than 850 exhibit booths spotlighting the latest, most innovative and premium coffee products available. Only six products won blue-ribbon awards at the show – with red espresso® being one of them. red espresso® made history as being the first tea to win in the specialty beverage category, as well as the first South African company to win an SCAA award.

Top 10 New Product – World Tea Expo – 2008(USA

Out of 220 new product entries, red espresso® was selected as a Top 10 Best New Product at World Tea Expo, held in Las Vegas in June 2008. No official winner was chosen.

IUFoST Global Food Award for Product Innovation 2008 (CHINA)

In October 2008, red espresso® was awarded the Global Food Award for Product Innovation at the IUFoST (International Union of Food Science & Technology) Global Food Industry Awards, which took place in Shanghai, China. IUFoST (International Union of Food Science & Technology) is the global scientific organisation representing and linking 200 000 food scientists and technologists. At this year’s awards, adhering bodies from 72 countries were asked to recommend local industry candidates for awards across three categories, including product innovation.

red espresso® was nominated by SAAFoST (South African Association for Science & Technology) for its technical innovation of pioneering the world’s first tea espresso and, out of 10 shortlisted entries from around the globe, won first prize. This global recognition of our technical innovation.

Sunday Times Marketing Excellence Awards – Rising Star of the Year 2009 (SOUTH AFRICA)

In March 2009, Monique Ethelston, Global Marketing Director for red espresso®, was voted Rising Star of the Year in the prestigious Sunday Times Marketing Excellence Awards.

Held annually, the Marketing Excellence Awards is considered the most sought-after accolade in the marketing industry. The awards are said to “recognise and reward the marketing discipline in the South African boardroom in its many facets and all that comprises a great marketing campaign, including image, innovation, creativity, pricing and distribution – the complete ambit of the marketing mix.” A prestigious, high-level business council including Sir Paul Judge, a leading marketing luminary in the United Kingdom, oversees the awards.
